Important**Not receiving PTC/APTC does not necessarily mean you cannot buy health insurance.**
Depending on your situation, you may be able to buy an ACA plan at full price. Private products with different benefits and limitations are also available.
Eligibility to enroll in a plan and eligibility for financial assistance are separate determinations.

## ACA health insurance 2027: what to know before you enroll
Household income, eligibility documents and certain immigration categories can affect the premium tax credit (PTC/APTC) and cost-sharing reductions (CSR).
01 · Tax credit
### PTC and APTC
PTC is the premium tax credit; APTC is the advance payment of that credit. Not everyone who can buy a plan qualifies to receive it.
02 · 2027 changes
### Immigration eligibility
For 2027, the categories of non-citizens eligible for financial assistance are changing. Each household member’s situation may be different.
03 · Renewals
### Costs and coverage
Before you renew, review the total premium, in-network doctors and hospitals, prescriptions, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum.
Before changing ACA coverage, compare the differences in benefits, costs and exclusions. Supplemental insurance does not replace comprehensive health coverage.

## Health insurance with a tax credit (PTC/APTC)
If you meet the requirements, you can buy an ACA (Obamacare) health plan and apply a tax credit to lower your monthly premium. The amount depends on factors such as your estimated household income, household size and current eligibility rules.

Comprehensive health coverage
### ACA health insurance without a tax credit
A health plan with essential health benefits and coverage for pre-existing conditions. It can be purchased at full price if you meet enrollment and eligibility requirements.
Specific benefits
### Supplemental insurance
Coverage for accidents, hospital stays, critical illness and fixed benefits. These plans pay limited amounts and do not replace comprehensive health insurance.

## Supplemental coverage options
Cash benefits for specific situations. Payments, exclusions and limits depend on the policy; this coverage does not replace comprehensive health insurance.
### Accident insurance
Benefits for covered accidental injuries, such as fractures, burns, ambulance, emergency care or surgery.
### Hospital indemnity
A fixed payment for a covered hospital admission and, with some plans, for each day in the hospital.
### Fixed indemnity for medical services
Set amounts for doctor visits, tests, emergency care or other covered services, even if the bill is higher.
### Cancer insurance
Benefits for a diagnosis and, depending on the policy, for chemotherapy, surgery or hospitalization.
### Critical illness, heart attack and stroke
A payment for covered diagnoses, such as a heart attack or stroke, depending on severity and the policy.
### Dental, vision and hearing
Options for cleanings, fillings, crowns, eye exams, eyewear and certain hearing services.
Waiting periods, pre-existing condition exclusions and benefit limits may apply. Availability depends on the state and the policy.

## ACA health insurance questions
If I don’t qualify for APTC, can I still get an ACA plan?
In many cases, yes, at full price, if you meet the requirements to buy the plan. Not qualifying for financial help does not automatically mean you can’t buy coverage.
What should I review if I received a renewal letter?
Compare the 2027 premium, deductible, out-of-pocket maximum, in-network doctors and your prescriptions before you decide.
Does a fixed-benefit plan pay the entire bill?
Not necessarily. It pays set amounts for covered events or services; any remaining cost may be the policyholder’s responsibility.
What happens if my income changes during the year?
Update the information on your application. A change in income or household can change your tax credit and the amount you may need to reconcile on your tax return.
